Clover and Oats

Crimson Clover and Oats Flood Plot planted in Mid Sept. I'm pretty happy with the results although I'm surprised the deer haven't started hitting this yet. Any idea how mature the oats need to be before deer become interested?

Not sure about your area, but if there is a heavy acorn crop in the area the deer will hit them till they are gone.

Deer are hitting my plots now, but the acorns are just starting to fall a bit here. Even with acorns on the ground deer still go to my green plots some, just not as much if there wasnt any. Good looking plot

That's a nice game plot.

Thanks all. The funny thing is the plot has white oaks on either side which are dropping acorns the size of my thumb yet I found very few tracks or evidence of deer activity in the plot. Oh well, I'm sure they'll be there when all the other acorns are eatten up.

Beautiful plot! Congratulations on a job well done.

Hopefully it survives the 6 inches of snow Eastern WVA just received. I'm to understand oats are temp. sensative and tend to die off when the weather gets below freezing, not sure about the crimson clover. Recent visit showed turkey hitting the plot but the deer still don't appear to have much interest yet. We'll see as the season progresses
