Electronic PH Meter

Does anyone know a good one that isnt too expensive? Or is it better to just get a kit from Antler king or someone like that? I would like to get an electronic for the ease of use.

Thanks much.

I'd skip it. Lets say that you spend several hundred or thousand dollars to get an accurate one. What good is the pH going to do you? pH is only one part of the lime equation and tells you nothing about fertility requirements.

I agree with hoss. You can send in a sample to your local county extension office and get a report back for free. This report will tell which types of fertlizer and how much is needed.

The UM has a soil testing lab in St. Paul that chrges $9/sample. Their pH meter and methodology are better than what you can buy for a reasonable amount. Plus, you will get Phosphorus, Potassium, and good fertilizer and lime reccomendations for what you want to grow. http://soiltest.cfans.umn.edu/submitti.htm

I would skip the home testers and send it out to a lab. I am sending my sample to a university lab. I know biologic does it for like $6 but I decided to go with Michigan States lab for $15 because they have an extension office right by my hunting grounds and it was just easier.

Soil testing methods vary by soil type and area of the country. A test in a cheaper lab far away may not give as accurate of a picture of your soil fertility as a lab in state (or bordering state). It is always smart to stay as close to home as possible with your soil testing. You really will get a better value for your soil test dollar. Smart play Marqismarc.
