RE: Best food selection
YOGI - Welcome to the board.
It is difficult to get really good information, because of all the variables involved. Different soil types, planting methods, dates, moisture, etc. One plot that does real well one year, might flop the next. Generally speaking, the clover based, perenial products offered by the major seed companies all do well. Roughly - the better seed is more expensive. Still, you can buy good quality Ladino or Red clover from your local co-op for 1/2 to 1/3 the price of Biologic or Imperial Whitetail clover. Regardless of what you go with - soil quality, and prep is 50% of it, Moisture & Weed control is 30% of it - the seed variety might be 20% of it. My point is that the seed cost is LOW compared to the rest of the cost involved with a good, perennial food plot. The picture below is a mix of White Dutch & Imperial Whitetail clover (I mixed a small bag of IWC with the Hardy Local white clover from the co-op) - This is this plot' s 4th year - the picture is from late- June |
