Ravine food plot?
 

I currently hunt a ravine, its a water shed and has some small creeks running through it. Its a semi urban area, about 60 acres attached to the interstate so travel for them is enter is easy. I know of some resident deer, but Ide like more, and more bucks. However its a ravine, pretty dark and a fair amount of brush. Natural Acorn plots on the top edge of it. Should I try and grow somthing to draw in more deer? Was thinking of some clover, or okra, or easily managable garden type plants. Any suggestions would be good. Soil is acetic, and typically a very moist area. However low light conditions around bow season, I may have to thin some canopy. Or would some simple corn feeders throughout the summer suffice?

For summer forage, aeschynomene (jointvetch) will tolerate wet feet and shade better than anything else. I still like 3 or 4 hours of good sunlight on it. Less light than that, stick with the feeders.

I never got the vetch to grow.. I got some seeds from someone, must be a soil thing. But I did get some throw and gro to take, got some good patches growing now of rye and clover...

I am in the same situation in southern Maine. What kind of clover and how did you do it? Any advice would help me.

I just got some from Dicks sporting goods its called "throw n grow" I did a bag of the mixed rye grass and it took right off. the clovers doing good too... Its summer forage.. and the clover is perinnal.. but well see if it survives next year. I just found some spots with a little light (maybe 2 hrs) of mixed sun light/ shade. Its moist down there all the time, as its a ravine/ 200 year water shed. Just raked the leaves back, and hit the soil with a metal rake. Tossed it out like grass seed. KABOOOM its about 5" tall in just 3 weeks. I guess I could go fertilize it, but im lazy

Actually seems to be working. I planted small 3'x3' or larger squares everywhere as I didnt know what areas would take.

Hmmm..... Whats that you say?

It was almost 8 o clock at night when that picture was taken. And theres not much light down there... Had to try somthing. That grass never got really tall, but they are definately eatting it :)
