What should I plant ?

I have 500 acres in east central Alabama. One part is about 50 acres of set out pines that are about 15' tall. The pines are not tall enough to hunt the whole area. On the back side of the pines is a big beaver pond. Well about 50 yards from the beaver pond is 3 huge oak trees in the middle of these pines. There is a clear spot in front of the oak trees about 20 yards x 30 yards. I have limbed 3 rows of the pines directly in front of my stand placement for shooting lanes. What I was wondering is what can I plant in these pine rows that will bring the deer into them ?

Where you at? Clayton, Clio, Perote, Needmore or somewhere in between? That isn' t much room to work with, but for winter food plots a mixture of rye, wheat and oats may work best. If the pines aren' t but 15' tall it will be several years before they are thinned and you can use the ramps for plot areas. Go down in the SMZ area next to the beaver pond and see if you can locate a couple of open areas you can hang a stand. There should be a major trail in there. By the way, welcome to the board.

timbercruiser I am in Chambers county. The 3 shooting lanes are about 125 yards long plus the area in front of the oak trees.
