2 row corn planter?

this is for a dove field in 2004.

i' ve been broadcasting sunflower seed, corn, milo, beans and disking it in the last few years. the weeds in this field are getting progressively worse, and i' d like a better and more accurate/precise way of planting seeds once i can control the weeds better.

would a 2 row planter w/ 3pt hitch be what i need for about a 10 acre field?

about how much would a used one cost?

thanks.

yes a 2 row or 4 row toolbar planter would work. A 2 row used woulkd be around 250 to 400 if you could find one at a sale, the plant roundup ready corn and weed control would then be a no-brainer...For dove season chop about 2 to 3 rows at a time , full length of the field...

If and when you find one, make sure that the seed plates are available. Depending what you plant, various size plates are needed for different seeds. Corn plates can be used for Cow peas, but smaller seeds require different plates.
Whatever brand the planter is, most require specific plates for that planter. A lot of the plates are NOT interchangeable. I have a Burch 2 row planter with about 3 sets of plates and I still need others for the various plots. Widths between rows can be adjusted somewhat, and yuou usually have to adjust the tractor wheels to match. If you want to plant very thick, you can double back on previous rows and plant the " middles" . Thus 30" rows doubled back can give you rows 18" apart. One thing I have trouble with is getting the chains that drive the planter plates adjusted so they don' t keep coming off. Have fun.
