Help with my Food plot

I have an area 3/4 acres. It hadn't been planted in about 4 yrs.I sprayed for weeds,Had the soil tested.I spread Lime & fertilizer.Tilled it in & then planted Clover/Chicory.Everything started coming up fast. This past late summer I noticed that a vine type weed was taking over and blocking out everything.I spot sprayed as much of the weed as I could see.Now 3/4 of my food plot is dead.My local farm service person suggested that in March I spread New Clover Seed over this area with the thought that the snow will push it down in the ground.Any suggestions.Would you till this area up & start over or Just spread new seed. Help,Roger

This late in the year I would wait till next summer and take care of the vine weed you are talking about and start new. Does the vine look like a fine small fine leaf fern or what kind of vine is it? You need to make sure you use a herbicide that will kill it 100% or you will be wasting your time again.

I would wait until after the snow melts, but before the ground fully thaws to reseed. Frost seeding can work very nicely for seeding clover if you do not have a lot of plant residue on the soil surface. Perfect conditions would be no snow, soil slightly thaws during the day and refreezes at night.

Is the vine a bindweed? They can be very tough to control. It is an annual, comes up late, and I have seen it destroy acre size patches of corn. It could be controlled with a pre-emerge herbicide AFTER your clover gets going. http://www.ksda.gov/plant_protection...nt/349/cid/889
