Herbicides and planning

I have a 2 acre chunk of land that I want to convert to a plot next year. It was dozed last year and never touched, so its full of thistle and young raspberry bushes. I plan on discing this in the early spring (march-april). Then lime it since intial ph is in the low 6's. I want to plant imperial clover. What should I use for herbicides to prevent the thistle and other random crap I dont want, and when should I apply it? I'm thinking I would like to plant in August. Oh ya, I'm in Upper Michigan.

I would spray it on a sunny, warm fall day if the raspberries and thistles are still green. Fall is the best time of year to spray perennial weeds. Use a glyphosate and 2,4-d mix. If you control the weeds this fall, you may want to plant next spring.
