Mineral Salt for deer?

I just bought 100 pounds of mineral salt and am wondering how to correctly apply it to the soil? I know that you are suppost to "mix" it in to the ground but, that is rather broad. Does anyone have any thoughts or suggestions on how to do this effectively?

Disolve it in water and pour on a stump or in a slight hole. or just dump salt on the ground

I've been putting this out for years and have found that its best to dump on the ground and then use a spade and mix into the soil by basically chopping the soil up. Then either wait for mother nature's rain or dump a 5 gallon bucket of water on it. In my territory the deer are going to be slowing down on the salt/mineral licks.

I just buy a mineral block at TSC for a few bucks and put it on the ground. The rain will dissolve it. I usually end up putting out about three each Summer in each lick. Over time, the deer will continue to visit the lick. I started a new lick this June, and the deer are still hitting it pretty hard. Of course the action will slow down as Summer comes to an end. It's just a way to help the deer with nutrients during a time when they need them.
