shot plot

i just purchased a bag of the evolved harvest shot plot. i planted this last fall with great success, the deer mowed it down to the ground once it got pretty tall. i was thinking about planting a small plot of it pretty soon but i dont know how well it works during the spring and summer. im thinking about planting it in a spot where i just recently hung a new stand for next fall and i want to plant somthing to pull the deer in there for the upcoming bow season. i am also planing to put out a trophy rock with a few bags of corn to get them coming to the rock.. do yall think this will be good to plant to pull in deer during the spring and summer? anyone have any luck planting shot plot in the spring?

thanks

I planted shot plot in a 3 acre plot last fall and had the same results as you did. Even though it didnt rain for over 2 weeks after I planted, it came in pretty good. Then once it did the deer ate it right to the ground. I dont think I am going to plant it again this fall because once they ate it to the ground it wasnt any benefit to them, so I think Im just going to plant WW. Rye and BFO's just like I do in my other 35 + acres. Here is a trail cam pic of it. Pike

You would get much better results if you hold off planting the shot plot until the end of July--mid Aug. It's possible the deer will eat it, if planted now, but the long hot days of late spring will make it mature rapidly and become useless by mid June. Insects will also do some serious damage. Something you might want to consider is planting Buckwheat mid to late May, the deer might use it some, but it will help improve your soil and hold down the weeds until it's time to plant the shot plot. Keep in mind that 10 #'s of shot plot is enough for 1.5-2 acres, try not to plant it to thick.

Just my 2 cents.
