throw and grow

Any of you folks ever use it? I was gonna plant a small food plot in an open section in the middle of some timber and wanted to get some opinions on what to put. This seemed very simple, but I didn't know if it was even worth messing with.

:hit:

Noooooo! It is mostly annual rye grass which will come up nearly anywhere, but the deer do not eat it.

Try some oats instead. Just get to some bare ground with a rake, throw the oats, rake again to lightly cover the seed. 40 lbs of lime and 12 lbs of 10-10-10 per 1000ft2 if it is the first time planting anything there. A soil test would be better, no one else seems to like to do them:(.

very poor results with me as well, i had a "hard to get to honey hole" last year and thought it would benifit me to do some hand work and plant throw and grow. The whole point of that product is be successful in areas such as this, it didn't happen. I had hardly anything come up (rye only) and the deer didn't touch it.

There was a thread similar to this not to long ago & several guys said that the Whiletail Institute "No Plow" worked really well.
