Dead apple tree
 

I planted a dozen apple trees in May and i noticed one of them turned brown and all the leaves fell off. Is there any chance that I can still save this tree by cutting it to the base or something else or is there no saving it. I cut one down to the base once that had cracked apart and it grew back and is doing well so i thought it might work here. Thanks

If it's dead, it's dead. If you cut a live tree at the base it will grow back, but it won't bring a dead tree back to life. It's worth a shot in case there is some life left, but don't keep your hopes up.

If you cut it and it does grow back, the apples that will be eventually grow will just be wild apples as the grafted portion of the plant that would produce the apple type(i.e delicious, mccoun etc) you purchased is dead. The graft could have failed and the bottom portion of the plant is still alive but usually dead is dead and apple grafts are pretty reliable.
