Default ROCK SALT

A farmer i spoke to sait that a couple years ago had a couple bags of rock salt in the bed of his truck. When he went to open the tailgate a bag ended up spilling all over the ground. Time past and he began noticing something was coming to that spot. The deer had started using it as a mineral lick. My question is what is ya'll take on this? It would definetly be cheaper to buy a big bag or rock salt then buying one of those little salt blocks if they worked the same.

Deer love most any type of salt, no doubt your farmer friend was correct on the rock salt. I raise cattle and feed lots of salt/mineral to them as well as the deer. In my area the cheapest salt is stock salt. I just recently purchased some for $5.50 for a 50# bag. It looks just like table salt. You can also buy 50# plain white salt blocks for $6.00 or the brown mineral blocks for $8.00 (in my area) Rock salt is probably somewhere in between, last time I bought rock salt was for homemade ice cream

I like to mix salt and Di-Cal 50/50 to make a lick.

i appreciate the feedback. I'm getting a food plot started up and i'm going to have to cut a couple mid size trees out of the middle and would like to but a lick around the stump area to maximize the plot size. Thanks again
