To late for Chicory?

I bought some chicory to put in this spring, but the area I wanted to put it has been too wet to get the ground worked up until now. It says to plant in late April or May, but I am wondering if I would still be able to get it in. I wasn't planning on it doing much this year anyway. By the way I am in Southern Iowa.

Thanks
Dan

RE: To late for Chicory?

I have planted chicory in July here in Alabama and rite after I planted it it rain for a good two day's.After the rain had stopped we had about two weeks of a drought and the temp's got up to 105 for about a week and the chicory was the best thing we had out that the deer were grazing on. That summer was about 3 years ago now and still to this day I plant chicory. In my book it's a 5 star plant.I have chicory plots that are going on their 6 year cause I have mowed them and fertilized them rite and kept plenty of LIME on them.My plots are still being hit by deer today.
