RE: new grass patch

In south central Bama this is what I do. In late September I plant Buck Forage Oats @ 50# per acre mixed with about 40# of wheat. Then I over seed the area with Yucci Arrowleaf white clover. The oats and wheat will provide late fall/winter forage and in late Dec the clover will start showing up and provide good forage till May or so. I let the clover seed out and then the next September when I plant my oats/wheat the clover seeds will be covered giving a perpetual clover crop. Soil test, fertilizer, Ammonite, etc is also necessary and if you have a high turkey and deer population I would add another 25# of oats and 20# of wheat per acre.
