good spot for mineral lick?
how do you go about choosing a good spot to make a mineral lick?

RE: good spot for mineral lick?
Where ever deer normally use. If they are needing salt, it ain't many places they won't go to get it. |
RE: good spot for mineral lick?
Get it nearby a well used trail but not right on the trail...Thick stuff, where they feel safe is good. I experimented with a new mineral site location this year near an old atv trail that butts up against some of the thickest stuff Ive ever seen. In the last 2 weeksI got hundreds of pics, and 3 or 4 different bucks hitting it. Good luck to you, have fun

If you put the lick in a hollowed out tree trunk the deer will look after getting rid of the trunk for you. Just drill a few holes if the trunk is a fresh cut.

Moss, it doesnt as matter were you put them as long as you put them in area's that the deer are frequenting. I have them in thick cover, bordering thick cover, open hardwoods, on heavily used trails (especially were 3-4 trails converge at on spot ect., in my food plots/fields etc. It doesnt seem to matter where they are located the deer will hit them once they locate them. RE: good spot for mineral lick?
You can make new mineral sites thru out the summer.
I still have to make a couple new sites in the next couple of weeks. Then come July etc I will usually end up finding the next new "" Honey Hole"" and have to put one there aswell:D Pike |
RE: good spot for mineral lick?
The most heavily used mineral sites are nearly always located in thick cover and relatively close to atleast a minimul water source. Deer often will prefer to drink within a short time of eating a mouth full of salt filled dirt. Some good suggestions above, follow them and you should have a great mineral station in a short time.

RE: good spot for mineral lick?
I usually put my mineral lick up in a nice used area where deer are more than likely to use it more than once or twice a day.I got 100 pictures the first week. Also, try putting it on some old rotten stumps or old rotten trees this has proved very effective for me in Alabama.I would also try using products like buck jam.
