RE: What spray?

Hey Dave! I would use Glyphosphate..its whats in Round-up, but the generic forms work well and is MUCH cheaper. Southern States has got it, thats where I purchase mine. Gly-4 is what its called at this SS. It takes awhile for it to start killing the weeds 5 to 10 days but the weeds/grass will surely die. Also it works best in warm temperatures 70 degrees and higher. Good luck!

Gly isn't good at killing broadleaf plants, so I mix in some 2,4,D. I like to give it 3 weeks to do it's job.

RE: What spray?

Dave, I have used both. Whether or not Gly4 isn't good at killing broadleaf weeds is up for debate IMO. It will depend on just what type of broadleaf weeds were talking about. I agree both Gly4 and 2,4,D used together is a better all around mix, 2,4,D alone will not kill grass and I have had it inhibit certain seedlings. If the Gly4 or whatever Glyphosphate you choose doesn't kill all the weeds the first time you spray, then I would spot spay the remaining hard to kill weeds a second time. I have not had any trouble killing some very tough broadleaf weeds.

I should have said it doesn’t do well at killing some broadleaf plants. Some it will kill just fine, others don’t seem phased. 2,4,D isn’t too expensive, plus I use it on my yard. Good point about it having some residual effect.

2,4-D is your basic generic broadleaf weed killer found in most lawn weed killer sprays. You can buy gallon or 2.5 gallon jugs at most tractor supply or fleet farm type stores, in 40 to 60% concentrations.

Rather than spraying2 qts/acre ofglyphosate(roundup), you can use 1 qt glyphosate with 1/2 qt 2,4-D and get a faster/better kill at less cost.

Make sure the wind direction is right before using 2-4-d. Its terrible about drifting. You could kill somethings that you dont want to.
