I assume you want to kill before planting? If so, glyphosate will kill most plants. It's not so cheap these days, but I don't think you'll find anything to more economical.

Do you know what you are trying to kill? The generic Round-up glyphosate should work, I know in the fall you could get 2 1/2 gallons for about $90.

The makers of roundup, Monsanto bought up all the generic company's rights to make the product. So now Monsanto owns all of it and they raised the price. Two years ago it could be bought for $50 for 2.5 gallons, not any more.

JMO, get away from chemicals, moldboard plow your plots if you have one. JMO and not TREEHUGER either.

Someone told you a fib. That has nothing to do with why the price went up, as I understand. The patent ran out a while ago and many companies are producing glyphosate. There are a number of reasons the price is up from a few years ago, but they all come down to supply of chemicals to produce it.

I'm ok with not using chemicals just the cheapest way...

I have some briares that are starting to return from being mowed down that will need to be taken care of...

About how much acres will 2.5 gallons go?

Briars are another thing entirely. Glyphosate is a grass killer. You need something like Crossbow. Your local Co-op can help pick the right herbicide if you're unsure.
