ATV Disc
I am thinking about buying a ATV disc from cabelas to start a food plot next year. Do you guys know of any other discs that an ATV can handle that would do a good job and not a strain on the wallet.

RE: ATV Disc
We have a disc for our 4 wheeler and it works great for smaller food plots such as 1/2 to 1/4 acre food plots.
I planted a 1/2 acre food plot using the disc from the 4 wheeler to disc it up. The 1st time is always the toughest. I mowed all the long grass down and sprayed a couple of times and then used the disc a couple of times.
We did modify the disc by adding some weights to the back of it. About 100 lbs or so. The 4 wheeler is only a 400cc and it works just fine pulling that. I think the disc was around $600.
I have used that disc to plant 4 food plots this year and we planted a total of 6 with it this year alone but again they are not over a half acre in size. Anything bigger would take a lot more time and I would buy a small tractor for that.

I've been using a disc harrow for four years now behind my ATV with excellent results. I think I paid about $700 for it at the Deer Hunting Show in Madison, WI. The discs can be adjusted to cut more aggresive which I use on new food plots and less agressive when renewing existing food plots.
Here's a link to the one I bought.

I also bought their tine harrow for finishing touches on the plot bed.

And no I don't represent the Roth company, just passing on the best deal I found when shopping for these ATV implements.

Small discs do a much better job if you are able to burn off the vegetation first. An atv disc is simply no compariaon to a tiller or bigger disc you pull behind a tractor. But I think you can make it work with a little extra work.

It depends on what kind of soil you have. In some parts of the country an ATV disc will do just as good as a tractor then in some it's not heavy enough. They have worked great whenever I have used them. It just takes a little common sense.
Also a little more common sense....Don't pull one that is too heavy for your ATV and if you want a work ATV, don't buy an automatic.
