Beans?

At the store I buy my food plot seeds I went to ask if they had a summer food plot? They GAVE me free 150 lbs of old seeds mainly beans. We planted them thinking we' d get one in ten to grow, well it looks like eight out of ten grew just fine. Most of what we planted were bush beans, firtilized with 13-13-13 and lime. Now my question should I add more firtilizer later in the summer? What do beans need.

RE: Beans?

If you innoculated the beans they should only need P & K (depending on your soil test for those elements). If you didn' t innoculate the 13-13-13 will help the beans along (depending on your soil test). This should be interesting. I' ve never heard that deer really liked garden beans, but if they like soyabeans they should work.

They weren' t innoculated,so it was just the 13-13-13.Should I add any more later?I planned to add some 0-20-20 closer to next hunting season for the clover.

Watch how the beans are growing. The higher the nitrogen levels the darker green the plants (rule of thumb). If there is too much nitrogen the growth will be long, quick and weak. Judge it by the crop growth rather than just putting more fertilizer on.
