New Fall Imperial Whitetail Clover Plot

Gentlemen, Thursday the 24th Ibushogged my 6 yrs. old Imperial Clover plot (very short). The next day I sprayed the 3 acrea feild with a 4% Roundup sol., it had become much too weedy. I'm not sure of the next step to take. Here in Calhoun County, Mi. the recomened time for fall planting is the end of Aug.-1st of Sept. I want to make this plot look like some of the great clover plots I see in some of the pictures, mine always end up weedy. Some folks recomend, waiting 10 days then respray with roundup, then wait another week to till the ground and plant. Others say to till in 10 days then wait 10 more days spray again, till, then plant.
WHAT DO YOU GUYS SUGGEST?
My PH is 6.8. I have had great luck with the Imperial Clover, deer in the feild all the time, my neigbor has alfalra in his I have twice the deer in mine. This spring I planted 4 acreas of Cave-in-rock switchgrass around the old clover feild. This is hard work and with the price of seed and fuel I just want to do this right. If I can keep this plot in good shape for 6-8 years I'll be 65yrs. Someone else can take it over. I don't have a cultierpacker, just drag an old fence behind the tractor.

Either way will work. You'll have less initial weeds if you go with option 2. Every time you disturb the soil, you'll have new weeds emerging.

I try to keep my clover to abought 6 inches tall or so .
Farmers say it grows better , It lets the sun in .

You have pleanty of time - I'd wait 10 days - maybe even spray again before disking and such -

You really need to make sure the Sod is DONE for and that grasses are at bay. I like to skip at least one year and plant Roundup Ready Soybeans - as it gives me a usable crop that year - and another Roundup application or two to help me make sure the grasses/rootbase are completely removed before replanting clover.
