How to hang a feeder?

I am planning on attaching a 55 gal. drum to my timed feeder. I am going with a large container so that i won't have to refill as often because i live so far away from my woods. Has anyone ever tried to hoist such a heavy load of corn? Do you think it will be possible to do by myself with a pulley and also what should i use for the cable?

How often do you have to refill a drum that size? Lets say it spins twice a day for 15 seconds.

Piece of cake. just get a 7:1 pulley and some small diameter double braid nylon rope. You will lift her up there no problem!

in my area nylon rope wouldn't last a week...cridders will chew anything that has scent or gives off a scent.

I have mine running three times per day. I feed more in the winter than summer. I start them at 8:00 for 7 seconds, than 11:00 for 4 seconds and lastly 5 seconds for the evening. That is my summer cycle. It will last 3.5/4 weeks depending on alot of wind. Those are the numbers for the 30gal in the picture. on the 60 gal I could get at least 1.5/2 months on 15 seconds twice per day I figure...never really tested it out that way. deer are grazing animals. if you feed large amounts out at once the first few deer will set there and eat til it's gone. better to have at least three feed times for limited amount of seconds...corn only has around 7% protien...there are better things to eat in the summer months that naturally grow in the forest..more protien the bigger the racks. winter is a good time to feed heavy to get them throught the thin months. I use sweet feed ( same price as corn but double the amount of protien) I usually mix it with corn 50/50 to make sure it runs through the feeders with out clogging up. if you do buy a feeder stay away from american hunter... they jam super easy when you use big barrels....hope I was informative
