Mowing
I was wondering if someone could explain to me what the importance of mowing your food plot. I've heard some different things about it but dont know what is true. Whats the best way to mow it?I possibly could get a lawn tractor back in the woods, so how high would I have to set the cutting deck? Or could I use a weed wacker? Also, do I just let the trimmed clover just lay there, or do i have to somehow bag it? I wasnt sure if all of it laying on top would smother the newly growing stuff or what. Thanks for any info you have.

RE: Mowing
My clover plot is roughly a foot and a half tall, if that helps.

RE: Mowing
I'm not 100% on this but...From my understanding, mowing allows regrowth which provides more tender clover and higher nutrients. Both of which the deer prefer.

RE: Mowing
Will a weed wacker work or can I use a lawn tractor with the mowing deck raised?

RE: Mowing
1st you mow to keep the clover tender and attractive to the deer
2nd to keep the weeds at bay you should mow at 6 to 8 inches. I doubt your lawn tractor mowes that high. best of luck |
