Protein level of winter wheat?

I searched the net but couldn't come up with an answer... I would like to know the "average" protein level of winter wheat and how long into the summer it remains nutritious and how maturethe planthas to be before it becomes undesirable to the deer.

RE: Protein level of winter wheat?

If the wheat is properly fertilized and doing pretty good, it should have about 18-21% protein.

If the wheat is a bearded variety, deer will come off of it when it is in the boot. If it is beardless, they may stay on it through flowering. They will keep eating the heads on beardless even after it matures.
