How to remove Autumn Olive

I have 80 acres of land that is being overtaken by Autumn Olive. I'd like to remove some from around my pond and re-plant the area with something else. How do I get rid of them? Just keep cutting them back? Ialso do not want to contaminate the soil making re-planting hard. Can't get any heavy equipment back there either.

Call your county forester or NRCS office. There should be some safe sprays that you can use by your pond that won't affect the new plants you want to put in after the olives are dead.

x2. I worked on a farm this past summer and sprayed a lot brush that were right beside a river, with some herbicides. Unfortunately I cannot recall the name of what I used which ultimately makes this post..useless.
