I just ordered a 60# bag of 30.06 plus protein mineral lick from the Whitetail Institue. After reading about there product online I felt it was a good choice. I also bought their soil test kit.

I plan on putting up two or three small (1-2 acre) plots this year. I have a few questions though. What should I plant in North West Michigan? And should I plant as soon as possible? Or wait until July? I have a feeder out now with corn. That was used primarily to help the deer through the winter. This weekend I am going to put out my mineral lick in two different areas. I have a 100 acre lease.

After I do my soil tests. And i add the recommended amounts of lime or whatever is needed. Can i use Horse Manure as my fertilizer? I have a never ending supply of manure, and I would think it could help the plots grow like crazy! What do you think?

Thanks for all the input I have read about so far. This is my first year doing plots so all advice is appreciated!

Spread the manure first and work it in. This is rotted horse manure?

Well what is rotten manure? It has been snow covered for a couple months. Should be great for a good fertilizer. Kept our grass green as hell back in Idaho!
