Molasses

RE: Molasses
Molasses works great for pulling in deer all year round. Most guys seem to use it during the hunting season with corn or some other bait, mostly to keep it from seeping into the ground I guess. I don't know that it has very many benefits for the animals themselves but if you find a good recipe post it on here.

Cook the molasses to the temp listed on a candy thermometer for "hard crack", it will get brick hard. If you plan to add peanuts you have to use raw peanuts, do not add them until you're ready to pour the molasses into your mold or they'll burn. Most cookbooks have a peanut brittle recipe that will guide you.

RE: Molasses
I poured some around a stump one time, I got it from a keebler factory down here, the only thing it seemed to attract was bees, but I have heard people doing it and having luck. You should try a mineral lick site I think it would be more effective and more benefical to the deer's health. But as far as having a mineral block it has always been my understanding that the deer wont touch a whole block; it has to be busted and disolved into the ground.

I would put it out way before season starts so they get used to the smell, i started using it during the season and once the deer got a wiff of they ran to the next county, they wouldn't go anywhere near it, probably because they had never smelled it before
