Has anyone ever tried black-eyed peas?
I was talking to a local farmer about how soybeans hold up in South Texas for a summer food plot. He said they do fine, but deer seem to prefer black-eyed peas and the peas do better. The only problem is the seed is expensive and hard to find according to him. Any thoughts?

They will definitely eat blackeyes, but unless you have a very large plot the deer will eat them to the ground before they get big enough to stand much grazing. I'm not sure the deer would prefer one over the other. If you have a good deer population you would probably need at least 5 acres of either.

the seeds are not expensive at all. go to the grocery store and buy a bag. very cheap. i plant then as thick as possible.the deer never let them grow much and eats thetops off at about 6 inches. the hogs then came in and tilled up the rest.
