RE: Food Plots??

I've had good luck with winter wheat as well.

I own five poultry houses near my hunting spot, so the litter(fertilizer) gets spread on the food plots during the spring and summer....you would not believe the growth, from such a small area.

It is pretty crucial to check the PH of your soil....if it's off, it can affect the quailty of your crop....it might look the same, but the deer won't like it as well.

One thing I had happen to me....I planted a soybean/clover/wheat mix.....and I actually planted it too early in the fall, I found out earlier that some plants require the cold weather to begin the conversion of starches to sugars, making them palatable.....I've had acres of plots that the deer wouldn't touch. Pays to do the homework first before you invest that much money

Sounds like you have alot going on for 35 acres.Find a spot in the open wood area that would be easy to clear out and trysomething there. other wise any little spot that could you can till and plant will be ok. if you have a four wheeler path, you can drag the center of it and plant the whole thing, one long food plot.

i havent personally planted any plots myself but my buddy has been doing them for years.he told me the first step is to get the ph right(around 6 or 7).he said it is better to plant plots small.he mixes his plots.this keeps the deer in them all year long.he uses alot of chickory.

A great spring planting is an oats clover combo. Plant them at the same time, the oats will come up first, then in late August mow your oats down to the ground. The clover will germinate and come in for the fall.
