Why not? Sorry. The autumn olive is well liked by area pheasants and grouse plus it is nice and dense for deer cover. I'll also use it as a natural fence along property lines. Good fences make good neighbors after all.
The crab apples pretty much do the same thing, plus deer like to eat'em.

You should have the crab apple seeds from the fall in peatmoss stored in cold storage. Germinate them in starting soil in the spring.
I've never grown autumn olive but I would assume that the seeds should have the same treatment. Or you might try splitting the shrub before leafout in the spring. The last technique would be to take dormant cuttings, use rooting hormone and grow them in a greenhouse.
