brand recommendation?

Can anyone recommend a brand of seed for my semi shaded food plot. Local store has imperial and secret spot. Are these both good brands. Its for next year. I'm starting the clearing now.

RE: brand recommendation?

I use annual rye, austrian winter peas, wheat and oats on my fall hunting plots...some are almost fully-shaded. They turn out very well. These pictures are about a month old...they are a lot thicker now, but I'm sure you get the point...

Oats workvery well. Have6 plotsof oats on our places. Deer are using some of these plots heavily. Do not put out a lot of cash for someone's expensive oat seed. I planted one-half of one plot with the expensive seed and the other half with race horse oats at $9.00 for fifty pounds. The deer prefer the halfplanted with the cheap oats.

RE: brand recommendation?

I say winter rye is about the best seed for any occasion. I plant it in my garden at home for a cover crop and when it is about a foot tall after a few weeks the same crop is planted in my food plots it never gets over an inch tall. It handles any type of soil and requires almost no lime or fertilizer.
It is also cheap and grow better than oats and wheat, i do mix oats and wheat with my seed though.

Good Luck
