Did I Hurt my Oaks???
Yesterday I fertilized my favorite oak patch on the back 40. I didnt have a spreader so I took a post hole digger and dug about a 6" deep hole a the base of the trees, and filled it w/ 10-10-10 to about 1" then put soil on top. I put 1-2 two of these on each tree. Is this going to burn the trees?
The smallest one was 25" in diameter. So they are all huge mature oaks.
My brother-in-law is a horticulturist and he said it probably wont hurt them.
Will it help my acorn output this year??
Thanks,
Ed

Probably not. It is usually best to put the fertilizer out along the drip line, and trees that big need more fertilizer than that. It probably won't help this years crop that much. The White Oaks take one year to produce mature acorns and the Red Oaks take two years for the acorns to mature so it will probably help both of them increase the numbers of acorns next year.
