Roundup question
I have planted some RR Soybeans and corn and am getting ready to plant some pumpkins in with them. Does anyone know if Roundup will kill the pumkins. If so, I will spray before I plant them. f not, I will plant them before spraying. Thanks.

RE: Roundup question
i planted an acre of pumpkins last year. after they were harvested the deer pretty much ate every leaf and vine that was left. the ground was left bare.

RE: Roundup question
Go ask your local weed and pest if there is a selective herbicide that won't harm your pumpkins.

ORIGINAL: DanM3029 I have planted some RR Soybeans and corn and am getting ready to plant some pumpkins in with them. Does anyone know if Roundup will kill the pumkins. I honestly can't believe there wouldn't be MUCH betterchoices to blend with your RR crops than pumpkins though??? I'd think a brassica blend would be FAR more attractive to the deer??? Good luck |
RE: Roundup question
Pumpkins are fun for the kids - but not great for the deer.
There is a couple weeks a year when pumpkins appeal to deer - but its not a nutritional boost - and its tough to predict the "dessert value" for deer. If you are planting them for fun - plant after spraying. If you really want to supplement the RR corn/bean plots for deer- you can broadcast winter wheat or rye into them in Late August or Sept. - OR - overseed with a clover for NEXT year - OR both. FH |
RE: Roundup question
The pumpkins are for the kids. I plant a whole bunch and we give them away. The deer do hit them in the winter though. I plan on overseeding in early fall with buck forage oats.

RE: Roundup question
Depending how many pumpkins you are planting and your need to spray your soys you could possible cover the pumpkins with a tarp, then spray the Round-Up then remove the tarp.
