Default first time food plots

I lease an 80 acre old farm in north texas. I bought an older disc
plow, and fitted it to hook to my 4 wheel drive truck. It cuts great
with some weight on it. I have plantedtwo acres in round up ready
soybeans. I have plowed another dog-legged shaped plot,(3 acres)
I plan to plant that in two halves. one being milo and cowpeas
mixed, and the other in regular turnips. I just wanted to know what
yall thought about my choices. ps, I also want to pull some turkey
into my lease, that's why I chose milo.

Cowpeas and turnips should work well pretty much anywhere in North Texas.I've planted a pea patch this year, andit is doing extremely well. Milo should work most places most years. Soybeans need a lot of rainfall to work. East of I-35, they probably stand a chance. West of 35, they normally don't do much. However, this year, you can probably get away with a lot of things you don't normally get away with. I've been waiting for dry weather to harvest my wheat, and I'm not getting any. I hate to turn down a rain, but it is about to start costing me a lot of money.[]

I know what you mean about the rain. I've been waiting to finish
the last plot for three weeks. I was going to finish tomorrow, but
we got another two and half inches this morning!! At least the
soybeans got a good drink!!!!!!!! I appreciate the input, I live, hunt
in hico texas, and last year, there was no rain. I think I'll just try
the soybeans this year, and try something else in that plot next
year.
