round up application

I am planning on planting a 6 acre food plot. I have a 60 gallon Fimco trailer sprayer with a boom on the back. Is there a rule of thumb for how much round up per gallon of water to use and how fast should I pull a set up like this? Also how many gallons of round up do I need for 6 acres? I have heard anywhere from 2.5 gallons to 7.5 gallons depending who I talk to. I would appreciate it if anyone could shed some light on this subject. thanks

Depending on what brand of Glyphosate you are using, Roundup Weather Max or Original Max-22 0z. per acre. Generic Glyphosate-32 oz. per acre minimum. I add 3 oz. per gallon for spot spraying. You need to calibrate your sprayer. If you have never done this, I can help. Just let me know how wide the nozzles are from each other and we can go from there. If that is too much work, just fill your tank with about 15 gallons and see how far this gets you. Hopefully it will cover an acre. Application rates vary from 10 to 20 gallons of water per acre.

First, to save some $, I'd recommend using a generic glyphosate (instead of "Round-up"). Since the patent expired, there are many available products that will work just fine. I've used one called Glyphos. Second, the rates will be listed on the container. They are usually expressed as ounces required per acre in X gallons of H2O. Typical rates are 44-88 ounces of product applied in 5-10 gallons of water per acre. Rates applied vary with hose and nozzle size, nozzle #'s, pressure used, pump type and ground speed.

We sprayed a quart per acre with 10 gal of water and it killed everything within two weeks. We used a generic from the local co-op.
