How do I get rid of a bunch of little saplings?
I have a area that I want to do my next food plot on,The area has alot of saplings about the size of a pinkie finger or ring finger that I will have to clear out.I dont want to spend the money on a dozer or pay someone to come in to bush hog it down either.I am not looking to clearcut the small opening just to find the best way to take care of some of the saplings so we can get the disk around them to loosen up the soil.

You might try spraying them with Arsenal or Chopper when they leaf out. When they are dead and dry, burn the area and then use a heavy disc on it. If they are no bigger than that you should be able to plant a clean area this fall.

go to your local rental place and they should have a bush wacker.... its just a hyped up weed wacker with a metal blade that you rev up and wack into the sapling.. its good up to trees 2 inches in diameter... they are pretty cheap to rent for a day or too and they are a blast to run and you can clean a lot pretty quick. hope this helps

Brush blades on weed wakers work well for selective clearing or small areas (up to an acre). Roundup could also be used after they leaf out

By the way...how big of an area are you dealing with?
