RE: S.E. Ohio red clay plots
You need to treat all pesticides and herbicides with respect. Even Roundup hasdownsides. I obtained my pesticide license for farming and learned how the government tries to minimize the use of pesticides by doing bug counts and offering a spraying hotline.

Metalhead, roundup is as safe as it gets. Also, it is stronger on grasses than broadleaves (that's where the 2-4,D tankmix comes in). I promise you I know what I'm talking about - I'm licensed in 12 ag categories in my state including Commercial Application for Weed Control and Weed Control consultant. Alsoa CCA. But I also know how it is when you get a bunch of misinformed people seeing you spray, some of them immediately go to the hospital the minute they see a sprayer running and try to find a lawyer. If you ever need any help with chemical selection or restrictions PM me.

Highcotton; I agre with you thatRoundup is about as safe as it gets (except for maybe dormant oil or sufur). But; it still causes problems if it makes it into an aquatic environment.

I'm directly uphill from the lake, and the run off goes directly into dedicated culverts straight into the lake. Heck my pond over flow runs into one of the culverts that runs under a one lane dirt township road that is on state propertywith public hunting, fishing, trapping and gigging.

RE: S.E. Ohio red clay plots
My last post on this - I'm not trying to argue just state facts. Monsanto roundup label clearly states do not apply directly to water / watershed. It also has a LABEL to be applied directly near fishponds. It also says virtually non - toxic to dogs, livestock, birds, and fish. Glyphosate translocates into the plant with 30-45 minutes of application meaning the "active ingredient" that could cause the "problem" is held inside plant tissue at that point. I'll get off my soapbox now lol

Monsanto is selling a product. So do tobacco and liquor companies. Wikipedia must be wrong......
