Protecting Shrubs
I'm gonna plant 150 hardwood shrubs such as Redosier Dogwood and Buttonbush this spring. What is the best way to protect them? They don't grow very tall, so I don't know that tree tubes are the way to go. But I'm afraid if I don't do anything, the deer might take them all out.

RE: Protecting Shrubs
I was just hooked up with a website because i had the same type question. ttp://www.growtube.com/index.html . I am thinking about using these, then putting a wire cage around my trees to protect them from deer. The guy that gave me the site said his cherry trees were planted 1 1/2 years ago, and now are between 6 and 8 feet tall. He had photos to back it up.

I put them on 200 bareroot seedlings I planted last spring and they have worked great so far. They do get brittle in cold weather. I've had a few break, but they definately help the trees and encourage growth. I planted 50 3-4 ft Sawtooth oaks, they are now average 7ft. Can't wait to see where they are after this years growing season.
