How early in the spring can I plant chufa?

I want to plant some chufa this spring. The plot is near the NC/VA border about where I95 crosses. With a reasonably warm March, will it attract turkey the first year? Our turkey season starts the second Saturday of April.

RE: How early in the spring can I plant chufa?

Here in NW Fl and south Bamawe usually plant around the first of July. They will mature and the birds will feed on them thru the winter. If you go to chufa.com and contact John Wilkerson he will probably be able to help you. He sells seeds also.
