I have had a little over a year to finally get some foodplots started. I have 140 acres and it has 2 of the 3 most important characteristics- water and heavy cover. The third area- food was what I needed to work on. My cover lacked a lot of mast and I had several fallow fields prime for foodplots.
I started this fall with winter wheat and buck forage oats. Needless to say, buck forage oats lived up to their sales ad calling it the, "Kill Plot". Does have been feeding on this field for over a month. My proof didn't necessarily come with this buck. It's come with the fact that the two fieldsI had fallow last year possessed one active scrape. With foodplots the same fieldshad over 7!
Thanks for all the suggestions found on this site.
I do have a question, though. I'd like to have the oats in these fields again next fall. What should I do with the oats I have in there now? Do I till them under and do a spring/summer plot? If so,any suggestions (beans?)?

Just plow them in when it starts getting warm, they will be dead anyway. Then when it is warm enough plant soybeans or iron clay peas for summer. Next fall plant the oats again. The biggest problem I have seen with the Buck Forage Oats is that the deer like them too much and keep them eat off too low. I'm going to put a couple of cages in a couple of patches just to see how much they eat them down.
