Default I miss my food plot.

Have not planted one in 5 years. Slowly the clover has been taken over by other weeds. My brothers apple trees are doing good though.

Last year we were three for three in bucks with all three racks wider than the ears mine being an 8 my brothers also an 8 and the nephews a 7 but his was bigger and thicker. We have never gotten three bucks like that in the same year. The last 3 years we did get one per season. Before this we were getting runts.

I have been out four times so far and only one day I saw three. They are not marching through the plot like cattle in the past four years. Only one year did they march through like cattle but I at least saw one when I went out.

I will have my plot redone next year for sure. I slowed down because I have a 2 and 6 year old boys. Cannot wait for next year and I will go from one plot to hopefully 5 plots next year. 3 of them will be small ones.

Do I think plots are good......heck ya. Good for everyone even my neighbors because we have antler restrictions on our land and alllows them to get the deer we do not. I do not mind what they shoot because of the results we have gotten in the past 4 years........

Hi Buckmine -

Iremember you planting that plot -

You are right - it takes alot of time and its tough with kids. I personally had a tough time this year coaching softball & little league all spring/summer. Some of the other guys stepped up and helped out quite a bit - still our plots could have been better this year - it all comes down to priorities.

Don't rush back into it - take your time and prepare the plot well before planting - I alwayshave to remind myself this - and still I mess up often enough to want to kick myself.

Default RE: I miss my food plot.

Well I had a big one chasing a doe again this year. And as last year another one that I thought was bigger came along 20 minutes later. It never came to my grunting and I wish I had my "can". It did give me a shot at 50 yards and I missed. It gave me another shot at 60 yards and missed again. It walked of like nothing happened and it was not hit.I hate shotguns........

Shot my gun up at the house and it was on. Buck fever does not hit me like it used to.. You learn to let deer walk by and it becomes habit that you don't let the sight of a deer affect you. Hopefully I will see that deer or the other one again.
