salt lick

I am wanting to start a salt lick near a canal on my land. What kind of salt and how much should I start out with?

RE: salt lick

1 part dicalcium phosphate
1 part dairy minerals
1 part trace mineral salt
add 1 part dry molasses to start with to enhance the flavor...or add berry flavor jello mix, beast feast, hogwild, peanut potion.

Careful with that salt. You may be doing more harm than good...

The canal has water in it so if the deer need to drink after the salt, they would only have to walk 15-20 feet.

i've seen them eat trace mineral salts out of the cattle yard. we have a lot and the deer will go in and lick it. its funny when you get one in there and they cant figure out how to get out . just back off and watch they figure it out . deer are like cows they get what they want and leave.
