Used Peanut Oil..? ? ?

I have a friend who received a tank of used peanut oil to use in his heavy equipment.

He has the left over stuff, the oil with remains of deep fried paticles and oils that come from deep frying stuff in several 5 gallon containers etc...

He asked me, would wildlife benefit from it in any way. It's biodegradable and consumable. Would bears, predators, rodents or any other wildlife benefit from it, perhaps on a log etc..?

Would trappers be interested in such a thing or should he dig a hole and bury it?

Bears would go for it for sure , or he could convert it to biodiesel for his equipment .

Kevin, yeah, he's using it for his equipment, this is the stuff that is filtered off that cannot be burned.

They love it Rob. A few years back I baited bears at my property by filling a 45 gallon drum with cereal, donuts, and bread. This was topped off with 10 gallons of used peanut oil overtop. I watched the drum for 2 days and saw nothing. I left the property that night and returned the next day to find the drum empty and the grass around the drum so stomped down that it looked like the bears were having a dance.

Well it's illegal to bait in PA but neither of us will be hunting bears so I guess they could enjoy it to watch or video purposes. That's good to know, I'll let him know.

Isn't the stuff you drain off after refining have lye and ethenol in it? That is how you make bio-diesel, right?

Yes , but you can recover some of the alcohol for reuse and neutralize the lye for disposal . Most of the waste is glycerine , which can be sold to recyclers .
