Turnips?
 

Has anyone ever used these for a food plot? If so, with what results? and is it to late to plant some small patches?

Don't know. I planted some 2 weeks ago on the edge of my yard for my 'pets' and they are starting to come up now.

I planted a bunch in one strip on my foodplot. They came out well but they tend to be a cold weather food for deer and they havent started using them yet. I expect them to start using them pretty heavily in about 2-3 weeks. It is probably too late now to plant for them this year, I seeded in the first half of August. Here are pics.

Yes, turnips are used in several food plot seed blends. The blends that I planted in the spring were left alone until late August/early September and then the deer cleaned them out.

I planted more this fall and my son shot a doe that had been feeding in them on Saturday.

Whether or not you can still plant them this fall depends on where you live. You would have to go by the seed companies recomendations on planting dates.

Yes, turnips or brassica (same family) are excellent for mid to late season. In Ohio, they are an incredible draw come gun season. Once they freeze a couple times they sweeten. The deer also will dig up the turnips once they've eaten all the leaves. I could not believe the attraction the first time I planted it.

Ditto. This year, and the deer are in it much more than I ever anticipated.

I've planted 4 plots this season , 3 of them are clovers and such and one strat turnips and it seems that the deer are feeding more on the turnips. They are taking the tops off of them now and when they freeze they will dig out the bulb.

The wife tells me everynight I go out to hunt in other places that the deer are in the turnip plot at home before dark.

I planted this plot up in the front yard beside the woods more just for a test plot to watch and so far its been the best....
