What to plant?

I just got access to another ranch here in South Texas, and the owner wants me to plant 2 small (1/4) acre plots. There is hardly any natural food on the property other than grasses, brush, and 1 corn feeder. It is dry, it is hot. However, I can water if needed, I have a 100 gallon tank and am willing to put in the time.

One area I want to plant is the dam of an old pond that will get sun 4 -6 hours daily, and the other area is an area that was disked last year and will get sun most of the day, but its located where 6 40 yard wide brush fingers come together.

What would grow down here, and be best to attract the deer onto the property, and possibly hunt over late this season or next season?

RE: What to plant?

We are not that far from you so same weather conditions apply...I'm sure.

We use Bundleflower and cowpeas. The bundleflower, once established with come back every year if you shred/mow it once it goes dormant. Cowpeas have to be replanted every year. They are easy to plant by simply sowing....we don't use a grain drill.

good luck
