HOW OFTEN TO MOW?
IMOWED MY IMPERIAL CLOVER PLOT THAT I PLANTED LAST FALL LAST WEEK. SHOULD I MOW IT AGAIN BEFORE HUNTING SEASON OR JUST LET IT GROW?

RE: HOW OFTEN TO MOW?
I would wait until about the end of August or the first of September and mow it again. Most farmers mow twice for hay and it still recovers good before the first frost. You want to mow it to cut off the older less palitable growth and encourage new tender growth. One thing to consider is removing or somehow mulching thedeadclover. If left on the field it may hamper the new growth.

RE: HOW OFTEN TO MOW?
If the clover is Strong - I suggest
1. Memorial Day (late May) - reduces annual weeds and some grasses 2. July 4th ( delays early seeding of clover heads) 3. Labor Day (late Sept.) - ensures clover remains dominant and promotes lush growth for October bow season. These are days we can all remember - and at least in the Northeast - work out OK. If you are in a drier climate - you might Skip the 7-4 mowing. |
