RE: First food plot

Guys,
This past week we disced and rolled our 1 acre plot with a homemade roller and put down 400 lbs. of 15-15-15 fert. and seeded it with 8 lbs of Imperial Whitetail Cover. After everything was done it rained that night and the next day it seemed that seeds burried themselves enough. I hope everything works out for us. I will post some pictures of the plot when I figure out how to. Thanks again for the advice and info on this site.:)

Good luck - I'm sorry I missed your other question to me.

The reason for the rolling - is to keep good soil/seed contact - also keeps the soil moist if its packed. A couple weeks of rain like we had will do the same thing. You can drive over and over it with a truck or 4 wheeler and do similar things.

Sounds like you did your homework. You'll be happy - especially year 2. Don't expect too much in year 1 - you'll get some deer using it for sure - but year #2 - hopefully it will come in very full for you.

garber, i don't think that would work. you'd still have way too many weeds and grasses growing and would probably outcompete what you planted.
