Lime on existing Clover

I'm having a Lime speader come with 16 ton of lime. Can I spread over exesting clover without hurting it? Also would 16 ton be too much for 4.5 acres. My pH is 5.3-5.6. The soil test called for 2 ton per acre, but the minimum lime load was 16 tons.

From what I understand you only want to add at most 3 ton an acre or your waisting the rest as it will leech away.

your soil test calls for 2 tons per acre, but is that 2 tons of 100% pure lime? if the lime you are spreading is 50%, it's the equivalent of 2 tons of pure lime per acre (even though you are spreading 4). the lime around here in kansas is 62%.
