If your food plot is for deer it will work anytime during the spring or summer. if you are planting for doves it needs to mature and dry out before you cut it 2 weeks before theseason opens. most milo is a 60- 90 day crop. if you want it for upland birds plantat different times so some matures early and some latter
something that provides great cover and holds birds in your area is a mixture of sorgum and corn alot of the dairy farms do this and cut it for sillage.

Check out www.agriculture.purdue.edu.com and use the search function. Type in "Food plots for whitetail deer". I like this article because it has seed types, nutritional value, planting dates and soil requirements for all the plants listed.
Also google "PLanting chart for wildlife food plots in tennessee" This article has alot of good info too.

Good Luck
