RE: Deer & Turkeys in plot
Those are som great pictures as usual. Are you using a digital camera - or a 35mm?
Do your tom turkeys display Fans all year? I ask because the last couple years - I've watched toms Fanning in October and Nov. They were mature birds. I expect they'll start fanning for breeding purposes starting in March - but wonder if it means something else in the Winter months amoungst the group? FH |
RE: Deer & Turkeys in plot
FH, I am using a digital camera (canon 10d). Yes, they do fan their tails throughout the year, not nearly as much as they do during the months of March through June. Most of the time I swear that they fan their tails as much for other toms as they do for hens. If you watch close when they are fanning their tails you can see who they are doing it for because they are constantly turning their fans toward the turkey that they are trying to impress.

Really nice pics man. I love the first, with the turkey flapping his wings. Keep up the good wildlife management and photos.
